Merilynn and I wanted to get painting as soon as possible, but first we needed to remove wallpaper. The stuff is on almost every single wall (and ceiling) in the house. Our hubris began on the kitchen wall behind the fridge.

We bought a small device that is basically just an eternally boiling kettle for steaming the paper off the wall, and we got to work.

Oh dear.

Well, I guess it had a colourful past…
This wall is made from various ages of plaster, some sort of bright orange/yellow eggshell, some blue eggshell, some smeared white paint, some smeared skimming plaster, plasterboard patches (covering some sort of portal to hell no doubt) and some weird black crumbly stuff. We picked a rough one to start on.
I filled the worst of the dips and holes, smoothed them out a bit and we got to painting it with the cheap emulsion we bought just for this purpose.

Two coats later…

After getting to this point, we decided to table this project and tackle something we might actually have a chance at finishing. The living room.
To be continued…..
